Our promise

In plain words

We collect the least we can to make the product work, we keep it for you, and we never sell it. That's the whole stance — the rest is detail.

This Privacy Policy explains how Chopaka Labs handles information when you use the PakaNtrol app, our hardware, our cloud service, and this website. We built Chopaka on the idea that your farm's data belongs to you, not to us and not to advertisers. Everything below follows from that.

What we collect

Only what the Service needs to do its job:

  • Account basics — when you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name, email address, and a stable account identifier. We never see or store your Apple or Google password.
  • Your farm & nodes — the names you give your farm and devices, who you've invited and their roles, and the thresholds and settings you choose.
  • Sensor readings — the measurements your nodes collect: temperature, humidity, dew point, pressure, air quality, soil moisture, battery, and signal strength, each with a timestamp and, where you've enabled it, the node's GPS location.
  • Device & diagnostic info — hardware serial numbers, firmware versions, and basic connection health, so we can tell whether a node is reaching the gateway.
  • Support messages — if you write us, we keep what you send so we can help and follow up.
  • Launch & pre-order signups — if you give us your email through a “notify me” or pre-order form on this website, we store it in our CRM and use it only to let you know about product availability. We don’t sell it, and you can ask us to remove it any time.

We do not collect precise location from your phone, your contacts, your photos, or anything unrelated to running a sensor network. The only GPS we handle is the coordinate a node reports for itself, so it can show up in the right place on your map.

How we use it

We use the information above to:

  • Deliver your live readings and history to your phone and the web;
  • Send the alerts you've asked for — push notifications and email when a reading crosses your line;
  • Share readings and alerts across the people on your farm, per the roles you set;
  • Keep your devices claimed to your account and your account secure;
  • Fix bugs, improve reliability, and support the hardware;
  • Answer your questions and handle warranty and orders.

Alert emails are transactional — they're part of the Service you bought, not marketing. We'll only send you product news or marketing if you ask for it, and you can stop those any time.

What we don't do

In plain words

We don't sell your data, we don't run ad trackers, and we don't mine your readings to build a profile on you.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or your sensor data to anyone. We don't use third-party advertising trackers. We don't build advertising profiles, and we don't share your readings with data brokers, insurers, or anyone else looking to monetize what's happening on your land. If that ever needs to change, we'll tell you plainly and ask first.

Who else touches it

Running the Service takes a few trusted providers. They process data on our behalf, under contract, only to provide their piece of the service — never for their own purposes:

ProviderWhat they doWhat they touch
CloudflareHosting, database, file storage, and the cloud that moves your readings.Readings, account, device data
Apple & GoogleSign-in (SSO) and push notification delivery (APNs / FCM).Account identity, alert pushes
ResendSends your alert and account emails.Email address, alert contents
Shopify & PayPalStore checkout and payment, if you buy hardware.Order & payment details

The only other times we'd disclose information are the ordinary ones: to comply with a valid legal request, to protect someone's safety or our rights, or as part of a business transfer — in which case the same promises in this policy follow your data.

Where it's stored

Your data lives on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Our cloud, database, and file storage run there, and the app caches a little on your phone — your sign-in token and recent readings — so it still works when you're out of signal. The v1 Service is operated for customers in the United States.

How long we keep it

We keep your readings for as long as your account is active, because the history is the point — you want to look back at last spring's frost dates. You can export everything any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and its data. When you do, we remove your personal information and readings within 30 days, except anything we're required to keep for legal or accounting reasons (like a record that you placed an order).

Your rights & choices

In plain words

Want your data? Export it from the app any time. Want it gone? Ask, and we'll delete it.

Whatever state or country you're in, you can:

  • Get a copy — export your readings as a CSV right from Settings → Data → Export readings, no request needed.
  • Correct it — update your name, farm, and device details in the app.
  • Delete it — ask us to close your account and erase your data.
  • Leave a farm — and your access ends, while the farm's shared history stays with its Owner.
  • Opt out of marketing — though you'll keep the transactional alerts that make the product work.

We don't sell personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of there. To exercise any of these, email help@chopakalabs.com and we'll take care of it. We won't treat you differently for asking.

How we protect it

Readings travel over encrypted connections — the LoRa link between node and gateway is AES-encrypted, and everything from the gateway up rides HTTPS. Firmware is cryptographically signed so a device only runs builds we made. A factory claim-lock keeps a device tied to your account. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable, current measures to protect your information, and we limit who on our side can see it.

Children

Chopaka is a tool for running a farm, not a product for kids. The Service isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, write us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update the "Effective" date above and, for anything material, let you know in the app or by email. We'll never quietly broaden what we collect or who sees it without telling you.
